This year it is the turn of minimalist composer Graham Fitkin and Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy to explore opera from unexpected angles. As in the previous two seasons, the composers are not those immediately associated with opera – which is exactly the point: new ideas, different perspectives and provocative themes.

Only in its third year, OperaShots has already gained a name for unusual and imaginative points of departure – quantum physics, football and a doctor who is a dog have been some of the subjects – and so far composers and librettists including Nitin Sawhney, Stewart Copeland, Jocelyn Pook and Terry Jones have taken shots at this inviting art form. So what will this year’s OperaShots create and question? The one sure thing is that it will certainly intrigue and inspire anyone who likes their music and drama concentrated, contrasting and refreshingly different.

This year its the turn of prisoners in HMP Erlestoke, near Devizes to present Les Misérables. Wiltshire is new territory for Pimlico so fingers crossed, here are some photos from last year at send.
